Marbling!

As part of a Science lesson, we discovered that oil and water do NOT mix. Therefore we based an art lesson around this. We used marbling ink which is oil based. Mrs Fay put a few drops of the ink on the surface of some water in a tray and dipped the paper on top of it. The results were amazing!!

PE is FUN!

We had great fun this week on the Astro Turf during PE time. We did warm ups, played Hit the Hoop, Court Cleaner and then practised our under arm throwing and catching in our ball skills game. Then we played a fun silent game where we had to line up in certain orders eg the months of the year in which we were born. It was so difficult trying to communicate with no words but we managed it!

Reading Eggs

The children in our classroom are really enjoying using Reading Eggs to enhance their Literacy and IT skills during IT lessons. 

Fire Safety Talk

Thank you very much to Mr Derek Shanley and Mr Ronan Kearns, Killeshandra Firefighters, for their very informative Fire Safety Presentation to 3rd and 4th Class. 

Biodiversity Workshop with Dale Treadwell!

We were so lucky to have a visit from Biodiversity expert Dale Treadwell on Monday 25th March.  Dale has appeared on several children's RTE nature programmes such as Kazoo and The Why Guy. He also worked with Dustin the turkey back in the day.  He reminded us of the fragile nature of our eco systems.

Here we made a class food web based on the food chain and found out what happens when one part of the chain is damaged or wiped out eg if pesticides kill the insects, other species are detrimentally affected.

 Looking at minibeasts-woodlouse, ladybird, centipede and millipede.

 Dale planted new plants to attract insects and bees in our flower beds.

Bats and moths game: The "bat" had to locate the "moth" using only the sense of sound.

Character Strengths Jar

Weaving Wellbeing -We are working on examining our own character strengths and identifying them in other people.  We are leaving little messages in our character strength jar and making self portraits to represent ourselves.  We love this activity. Teacher will reveal our little messages at the end of each week.
