ART IDEA:

Try to make your own May bush to put outside your house to celebrate May Day. The May bush can be put out on the Eve of May Day. The 1st day of May was one of the most important days in the Irish rural calendar. There are many different variations and traditions around the May Bush: Gorse or Whitethorn was traditionally used.. but you can also just decorate a branch/stick and hang it over your door!
To Decorate:
* Traditionally egg shells from Easter would be painted. So save a few of your egg shells and paint them brightly!
* You can also tie ribbon/wool/cut some old fabrics/old veg bags/pipe cleaners/streamers... see what you can find!
Then add them to your branch and put it outside or above your door to welcome Summer, and it has been said it keeps away the cheeky fairies!
This is a great time to come together to create a May Bush to put outside your home!
I would love to see them when you have them up!

Another Irish tradition:
Another lovely tradition is to put primroses on your doorstep on the eve of May Day to welcome in the month of May and Our Lady will bring your home good luck.
