MAY DAY Traditions Lesson

Click the link:

*********************
ART IDEA:

Try to make your own May bush to put outside your house to celebrate May Day. The May bush can be put out on the Eve of May Day. The 1st day of May was one of the most important days in the Irish rural calendar. There are many different variations and traditions around the May Bush: Gorse or Whitethorn was traditionally used.. but you can also just decorate a branch/stick and hang it over your door!
To Decorate:
* Traditionally egg shells from Easter would be painted. So save a few of your egg shells and paint them brightly!
* You can also tie ribbon/wool/cut some old fabrics/old veg bags/pipe cleaners/streamers... see what you can find!
Then add them to your branch and put it outside or above your door to welcome Summer, and it has been said it keeps away the cheeky fairies!
This is a great time to come together to create a May Bush to put outside your home!
I would love to see them when you have them up!

Another Irish tradition:
Another lovely tradition is to put primroses on your doorstep on the eve of May Day to welcome in the month of May and Our Lady will bring your home good luck.

MONDAY 27th APRIL - FRIDAY 1st MAY

Hello boys and girls. It was great to hear from some of you last week. Make sure to get in touch with me this week. You should aim to type your spelling sentences to me and if you like you can send pictures of other work you are doing at home. As I've said before, you cannot replicate the school day at home so I just want you to try your best and it is important that I hear from you occasionally.
Keep yourself fit outside but if the weather is bad try some online exercise classes by looking up GoNoodle or Joe Wicks.

Contact me @ mrsailishfay22@gmail.com

Once again I will upload all corrections for the work set this week by adding links to the bottom of this post so keep checking every day for updates.

*** UPDATED Monday 20th April - Friday 24th April Suggested Workplan & Corrections

(See bottom of this post for links to corrections.)
Hi everyone!

I hope the last two weeks were good for you. At least the weather was good which it will be again this week. I find being able to go outside makes the days so much nicer for my family. Get outside as much as possible.

I would love if we were doing our work properly in our classroom again. Unfortunately we are not able to do that for some time. I, like everyone else, have no idea when we will get back to school.

I don't want you to get bored so I would like you to attempt as much work as is possible in your home. Believe me, I understand the difficulties involved in trying to share spaces and devices in a home during this time. I don't expect the same amount of work as you would do on normal school days but just for you to try your best. You might actually like it! Look back at the tips I gave you on the blog to date.

Here is a suggested work schedule for this week:

Make and decorate your own container and add in newspaper clippings, stories about what you're doing with your families, pictures etc. In years to come it will be something to treasure for sure!

Here is the sample plan for the day from before Easter again:

See how you get on with this work for now. I'll upload corrections throughout the week.

Take care everyone and look after each other.
