SCIENCE WEEK: Making a Paper Circuit-Live online workshop!!

We were very lucky to get one of the limited places on one of the Cavan Monaghan Science week live workshops this week.
We received a mystery box by courier and inside was an envelope for each of us.
A great man called Chris from "Makermeet" told us all about electrical currents-AC and DC. We learned that AC -alternating current such as in sockets is very dangerous and NOT to be tampered with.
DC-Direct Current is to be found in batteries and safe to use for our experiment.
We were going to make an actual circuit and light up a lighthouse!
Our envelope contained:

  • 1x Lighthouse Card
  • 1x CR2032 Battery
  • 1x LED (very small!)
The lighthouse card had a circuit made with copper tape. Copper is a CONDUCTOR for electricity. We learned about the +positive and -negative sides of the battery and LED. We had to follow Chris's instructions carefully to attach the LED and battery to our circuit. Then when we closed the card and pressed on the part of the circuit to make it connect, the light in the lighthouse lit up! Every single one in the class worked. We were so excited and delighted to have completed this project. Thanks Chris!
